Breathtaking City and Ocean Views

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes (aka RPV) was the last of four cities to be incorporated into the area known as the Palos Verdes Peninsula, best known as Palos Verdes or to locals as PV. Offering some of the best city and ocean views in Los Angeles County, Rancho Palos Verdes is located roughly 22 miles South of downtown Los Angeles.

Although sandwiched in between the popular cities and attractions of Redondo Beach and San Pedro, Rancho Palos Verdes is somewhat of an intentional destination, and as such, doesn’t attract heavy tourist or incidental traffic. That is part of the charm of living on the Peninsula! Yes… it takes a little longer to get to the freeway, but its that “out-of-the-way” feature that creates the environment that is so dear and treasured by the residents living on the Peninsula.

Rancho Palos Verdes offers a variety of residential choices, starting with condos in the $600,000 range all the way up to private homes well over $10 million. The schools in Rancho Palos Verdes are part of the Palos Verdes Unified School District and have a reputation for being some of the best public schools in Los Angeles County.

Popular Sites to Visit in Rancho Palos Verdes

It's All About the Outdoors

  1. Wayfarers Chapel: One of the most recognizable and “must see” landmarks on the Peninsula is the Wayfarers Chapel. Designed by renowned organic architect Lloyd Wright (son of Frank Lloyd Wright), the stone and glass structure gives unique expression to the sacred space that welcomes all Wayfarers along life’s path. It offers an ideal setting for weddings, baptisms, and memorials.
  2. Point Vicente Interpretive Center: The Center opened in 1984 with a mission to present and interpret the unique features and history of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The almost 10,000-square-foot expanded museum features exhibits on the natural and cultural history of the Peninsula, with a special emphasis on the Pacific gray whale.
  3. The Pointe Vicente Lighthouse: The lighthouse is an aid to navigation which marks the northern end of the Catalina Channel on the Pacific coast. It helps ships plot their position and warns them to avoid the rocky schoals which surround the nearby shore and, in a heavy fog, its horn will warn them if they get too close to the dangerous shore. The point was originally named in 1790 by Captain George Vancouver. Vancouver explored the Pacific coast for England in his 90 foot sloop Discovery. He named the point for his good friend Friar Vicente of the Mission Buenaventura.
  4. Abalone Cove Shoreline Park & Ecological Reserve: A popular place for locals in Rancho Palos Verdes, the Reserve features two beaches (Abalone Cove and Sacred Cove), tide pools, bluff top viewing areas and trails crisscrossing the area.  The 109-acre Preserve contains an official State Ecological Preserve with important natural marine resources.
  5. Terranea Discovery Trail: A popular 1.7 mile out and back trail that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
